practice guide is designed to help head teachers, teachers, governors and
others to ensure that pupils stay safe and healthy on school visits. It
includes chapters on Responsibilities for Visits; Planning Visits; Supervision;
Preparing Pupils; Communicating with Parents; Planning Transport; Insurance;
Types of Visit; Visits Abroad and Emergency Procedures. It also includes
a number of Model Forms that can be copied or adapted. NB The guide does not seek to replace local or other professional guidance or regulations. Where appropriate, LEAs should be the first source of advice |

to clarify responsibilities under existing health and safety legislation.
It explains who is responsible for the health and safety of school staff,
pupils and others on school premises or when engaged on educational activities
elsewhere including visits. It sets out related powers under education legislation
and the key elements that a health and safety policy should include.
