Chickens, had a course this week and never in the world would belive the statments I was given today. firstly the class had 10 students 7 Bangladesh/ Indian and 3 Siera Leone (All worked in a top chain store) On Epilepsy the lads from Asia told me they rub theit leather sandles under the nose and this brings the person out of the seizure!!!! The lads n lasses from SL agreed and also said if they had any ailment, that first thing in the morning before they scrubbed the teeth and had a wash, they would rub the fingers inside the mouth gathering up the smelly stuff the lies in there and rub this over the ailment!!! Now Ive an open mind to alternative treetment, but hey if it works indown town Bangladesh, who am i to argue...... Has anyone seen gungadin latley?

Suppose it would be worth a try... I take it it's a SELF help thing though and you shouldn't go wafting your rancid trainer under someone else's nose (or the contents of your mouth for that matter)

This isn't as ridiculous as it may seem, some sufferers of seizure disorders are more affected by the conscious mind than others, many actually have their own systems of self help on this basis that they use to avoid an aura escalating into a seizure. Common examples of this are deep breathing, drinking a glass of water and looking up or down. Neurologists I've spoken to say that these work simply because the sufferers believe they will. The neurone storm part of a seizure can be avoided in some cases by occupying those neurones with an activity. Or, rather, so goes the theory.
Seizure sufferers who suffer seizures based in the concious areas of the brain can sometime be revived by introducing something that would wake them from sleep or unconsciousness. I spoke to a neruologist about it some time ago, and it apparently seems to depend on where in the brain the seizures occur/originate.
On the same point, it's worth pointing out that talking to epilepsy sufferers can help too, seizures are a scary business, but someone having a seizure isn't necessarily unconscious, and so they can need reassuring, and more to the point this can help the seizure last for a shorter time, seem shorter to the sufferer, and also can (depending on who you believe) reduce the likelyhood of the seizure worsening into status.
Another thing that may support this idea is the pseudo-seizures feature of some ex-sufferers. People who no longer have neurological symptom (normal EEG) seizures, often still suffer seizures as a subsconscious 'habit'. These sufferers often find that the pseudo-seizures subside drastically and instantly once this is explained.

I just saw this as am new on here. Epilepsy Action recently ish did an article on this. There actually seems to be some truth in this one. I read about it in Epilepsy Today although now I wish I had read the article properly! Please don't stick your shoe under my nose if I was unfortunate enough to have another seizure, I'm sure you are all nice smelling, clean people but a seizure is a scary enough thing without being asphxiated!!! :)
