very true speckles

we do a lot of paeds training and were told by one client we had to take 20 delegates per trainer
we walked away from the contract...however Mr Single Status trainer took over!

there will always be someone willing to sacrifice quality where there is no other reason not to

on FAW we have had councils trying to get more on.. we just tell them NO it's our HSE registration and it requires 1:12

we had a tender recently who wanted QCF paeds first aid - not a problem, but that limits to 1:12. they wanted a quote for 1:18 and gt upset when we refused!!

Approved by who? the AoFA/BRC/AMIJMU? another money making franchise idea, I don't think so. A Local Authority would have far more credibility in my opinion, they will hopefully have quality as a target, and aren't out to make financial profit from any approval system.

Thanks for the feedback there Medrock but I meant if the LA registered provider was also approved by an Awarding Organisation (CIEH, C&G, or for that matter AoFAQ) it would give the engager a bit more confidence in the quality of the provider simply becasuse the QA process for such centres are fairly rigorous.

Lets not forget that the HSE don't have any sway over Paeds from a regulatory standpoint - nor are they ever likely to.  So a provider who is simply and only HSE approved may not have enough 'on paper' credence to satisfy the whims of a local authority.

Providers of pead training should must have approval from a Local Authority and the question then becomes is that LA more likley to grant approval to a provider who is registered with an Awarding Organisation and teaching the QCF qualification?  Just a thought.

BTW - as far as money making goes, I thought that's why we were all in business

I think there is often a lot of confusion between "Paediatric" courses and "EYFS" courses. Any bona fide first aid training organisation can run paediatric courses, but if you want to run EYFS course, you MUST be approved by the relevant local authority where the actual childcare is being provided.
