Direct mailing originally, but now e-mails to existing customers.

What have people found with Yell.com/Yellow Pages?  I'm up for renewal soon but I've not been impressed.  Having said that, I feel I ought to be in there.  What do you reckon?

we dont use yell.com/yellow pages to advertise
we tried before (yellow pages) long before yell.com got bigger but very little return
we dont really do open courses though so the average bod looking for 1 person on 1st aid course isnt really our market

All methods work.  The most important thing is to make them targeted and specific (in as far as possible).

A campaign targeting Bars & Nightclubs which focuses on a package of first aid kits or a HSE first aid course with specific focus on the particular risks in that environment will have a higher conversion rate than a generic 'all things to all people' campaign.

We stopped using Yellow Pages and their 'alter' ego about 4 years ago.

One of my guys went on a marketing course about 10 years ago and there wasn't much else out there to get the message across.

I re-evaluated it about 5 years ago and started to monitor the enquiries asking where did you hear about us from?

Over one year (which cost us £2,500) for a heading in which there was no relevant link.

They also refused to put our requested heading in, (keep the customer happy?) we actually had one person who said they found us through Yell. One person in 3 years cost effective or what!

No prizes for guessing if we use them now for advertising.......

Thanks: 1 times

Today’s business is about building relationships. Regular emailing works as long as it’s not spam. Send out news and advice plus a small degree of advertising. News and advice gives you credibility and authority something customers need before buying.

The main problem with first aid is that you are trying to get a letter land on the buyers table within a week or two of a required course.  So say 1 in 25 for yearly courses or even 1 in 75 say for three year courses multiplied by the normal miss/hit rate. i.e  pretty dismal.

So the objective is to get your prospective to remember your name when they have a requirement for training.

Another area that works well is giving free, branded first aid posters. These work well as these will often be displayed within their office space displaying your name in front of your client/prospect every day.

We (AoFA) sell full colour posters to members, 10 for a £1 (A4 posters) and 28p (approx)each  for A2 posters
