Hi All

I am looking into starting up a small medical events service and was just wondering what and where to begin.

All the help would be appreciated.

If the purpose is to make a profit then don't bother!! If you are going to be using an ambulance which most venues will specify then you will need to register with the CQC. Search on the web regarding this. Its a nightmare! You will need training, equipment, insurance, vehicle??, cqc??, The insurance is quite cheap for basic event cover, search the web, there are lots of companies doing this for not a lot of money, just use one which you have heard the name of! Vehicle insurance will be around £800 per vehicle. CQC is £800 per year plus tens of thousands spent needlessly on red tape. All I can say is good luck, you'll need it!

If you go back through the threads, you will find I have given much advice in the past on this subject. However, my advice has often not been well-received because it is not want the questionner wanted to hear. I have given advice on equipment levels, charging, etc.

You do not give much away about yourself or the context of your enquiry. It would be easy for me to jump to conclusions from what you have said and I will try to avoid that. But simply to support the previous comment. If you truly have the experience required to set up and offer a service at a level that is professional, safe and so on in this day and age, then you will already be aware that you will need to spend many, many  thousands of pounds to kick one off. In which case, providing you are not likely to be competing with my organisation, feel free to PM me about any specific piece of advice you want and I will try to help

Hi John I have started a small private first aid business, I started to look into it last year and felt that I had a good area with lots of events,

My god how wrong I was at thinking that my service will pick up the work.

I have found that one of the horse events use club members who are nurses/medics

The local BMX club use 2 emt's who have something to do with the club

And the one event that i was hoping to pick up to get me going are happy with who they useing and blew me out.

I have put a lot of work in and have only just got my first gig and thats out of my area, All i want is enough work to cover my costs to start with, with luck my reputation will bring in more work.

My area is Lancashire but have , what area are you covering maybe we can help each other out if our business is not in conflict, eaven if it's only ideas and finding good insurance etc it all helps.

Sorry this did not send to your inbox this is my email firstaidplus@hotmail.co.uk give me a shout back mate

Just a quick note to John_BTS

Hi It’s been some time now since that post about starting a small medical event service, how are you getting on have you taken the plunge ?

I started trading this year in Lancashire and got off to a good start once up and running , I still have a very long way to go

I think sometimes it comes down to luck getting some events if you call the organiser at the right time you stand a good chance, you will struggle getting organisers to swap medical providers , they tend to be creatures of habit and stick to what they know.

Why not give an update or send me a private message and I will share some of my limited knowledge.

Cheers John firstaidplus@hotmail.co.uk
