Not sure about a booklet but I think they do run a free course not just sure of the content but will look into this for you, I run a free 2hr adult course for the BHF and have the kids course on disk but have never opened it when I get time I will have a look. Not sure if it is suitable for infants will have a look at weekend.

Sorry been very busy over the weekend one of my children has one of those viral infections,

The BHF has a training package called” Ordinary Day” it is designed to teach emergency life support (els) as part of the schools programme. I have had a quick look around the bhf website but cant find any leaflets, I have put a link on to the website or give them a call they are very helpful.

BHF TEL 0300 330 3311 this is a 9 till 5 number and states it’s a similar cost to a 01 or 02 number. If I can find anything else out I will post on this thread, hope this is of some help.

Hello again I have asked my contact at the BHF if they do a booklet for children so when I get a reply I will pass on any information. I have just had a look over the Ordinary day pack and it is very good with a good dvd. I still think that infants are a little young for this course.

Mind you a long time ago I was asked to run St John badgers who’s age ranged from 6yrs old till I think 10yrs and most made great little first aiders, I met up with one of my badger kids dad the other day and he told me that she was 26 now, I felt so old.

The BHF course is graded for kiddies learning - as you say even little children can use a phone in an emergency and could put someone into recovery position if shown the way to do it. If you look at the Ordinary Day DVD, it shows on the back the suggested ages for each section - if you don't have the DVD let me know and I will mail it to you.

Having said that, some of my teams have taught BLS to Rainbows, Brownies, Beavers and Cubs as well as the older end of the Scouting movement.

I am very supportive of the move to get BLS onto the National Schools Curriculum. I feel that it is important to catch them young, so go ahead. There are leaflets for the teen years and a good booklet called Emergency Life Support for Everyone, which I often give out.

Got the above back from my BHF contact, I hope it helps.
