I already run bespoke training but am considering affiliating with one of the regulatory bodies to give my courses greater appeal.

My plan is to start with EFAW then do FAW, Offshore First Aid and Offshore medic.

Couple of questions

If I just run EFAW to start with I believe I dont need HSE approval but can go through ofqual. (according to HSE)

However ive looked at the ofqual site for emergency first aid

 http://register.ofqual.g.../Unit/Details/L_501_8620

It says I must meet HSE standards, is that having the same standards or having HSE approval?

But cant see on the site how you get ofqual approval.

Also I tend to either hire training facilities or teach outdoors as the emphasis of my training is on Wilderness medicine. How does this affect approval from governing bodies?

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum.

The first thing you should note is that at the present time you absolutely need approval to run EFAW (either via HSE directly, a third party approved by the HSE or an Ofqual Recognised Awarding Organisation).

I say at the present time because things will change with the implementation of the Lofstedt report.  There is a thread on here about that and you should read it - a word of caution though....there has been a fair amount of conjecturing and posturing - as is always the way when no-one fully knows for sure what their world will look like in a few months time.

Give me (Ann aka Marmite love me or hate me) a call in the office on 01908 610093 and I'll do my level best to explain things clearly and accurately as I understand them.

Don't panic we are all here to help (even if some of us get a little carried away at times)
