I’m going to be sitting the psychometric tests for the ambulance service on Monday (just found out now!), has any one got any good websites that I should look at for some revision?

Psycometric tests are nothing to do with what you learned at school, except being able to read.
From what I understand, you are asked questions and given several answers to choose from, all of which appear to be right in one way or another. The answer you choose enables them to see what type of personyou are. E.G. whether you are open to change, what your views may be about equalities and diversity.

You can't revise for a psycometric test so don't even try. they are looking to see what kind of person you are from them so there is no right or wrong answer.

don't revise for them, because you will be caught out and the only bit of advise I can give is read the WHOLE of the paper before starting, because just reading the instructions is part of the test.

There are some websites that do practice papers. Our Trust went through a management restructuring last year, and as part of the staff being interviewed for their jobs, they had to undergo pschyometric testing.We were given a website that we could look at it. I haven't got the link, but I'm sure if you googled it, you'd find something. I didn't do the test as I didn't apply for my own job!!

I've done 2 Pschyometric test as my previous job. Basically, you have to answer dozens of multiple choice questions within a given time - so you only literally spend a few seconds on each question. The test paper is like a Lottery form - its read into a computer which analysis the results and ascertain what sort of person you are.
 

The questions are not work specific nor are they about a specific subject. However, there many questions which are very similar, but these are randomly placed. If you are a very good speed reader and can retain the info then spend a few minutes reading through the questions - one of my old line managers told me about this and he was very good at speed reading.

 

Both of my Pschyometric tests said that I was a very resourceful peson but lacked strong managerial skills! Another old Manager came out as beng with very strong leadership qualities but somewhat cruel! (Old git he was too!)

 

Basically, I think its these Americanism personnel procedures creeping in everywhere - what a load of bollards. If your boss needs a computer to show what type of person you are, then the boss is not fit to boss - that my opinion.

Hi Little Rob ,
I had one of these test many years ago , and as indicated , covered several papers to be completed in a set time .

There are similiar questions spread over the paper , however , I suggest you be yourselve .

We all received a four line breakdown off our performance , but some time later , I was able to see an A4 report on my performance which I could not fault - ticking boxes had brought out a fact based printout of my personality .

So I dont think you have much to worry about - our management found out that we were smarter than they gave us credit for - nothing new there then !

the best thing to do is just be yourself, do not try to give the answer you think they want. Many of the tests are quite sofisticated and can spot this.

 

The tests can be about your presonality or looking for a specific skill  eg maths if the post is for an accountant, in this instance they are probably looking for problem solving, medical knowledge , team work etc.

There are many websites available which provide facility for psychometric testing practice online and offline both. You can search on internet and in local business directories. You must do practice for verbal and non verbal reasoning and aptitude test for psychometric testing.

Like Amy Lou said, don't try to give the answer you think they want, give the answer that most relates to you.  The results of these tests halp to build a profile of you so if you do manage to fluff the answers and bring them to the wrong conclusion about you, the real you will still show through eventually! Be honest, be you.
