Hey everyone! I am going into my 3rd year of medical school in London, and would like to get the opportunity to get trained and serve as part of an ambulance crew (actively - i.e. not just watching like in the various prehospital care uni programs around the city). Is there any chance to get this done and volunteer/work for example one shift/night a week (besides med school)? I know it may sound a bit weird, but I'm asking because this kind of stuff is very common in my home country (Italy), where it is very frequent for >18yo. (not just medical students) to train for 2-3 months with various ambulance services - such as the red cross - and then become what we call literally a 'rescuer' and volunteer as part of an ambulance crew (and actually 'do things'). I have already tried with the SJA people and didn't seem very professional - did my first aid course 2 years ago and am still waiting for my id card... - and the red cross, but the latter struggles quite a lot in replying to e-mails/phone calls. Don't mistake me for some arrogant student - I know it takes years to develop the skills of an EMT/paramedic - but I would really love to get some valuable experience in this field. Thanks!
