Thanks: 1 times

I am just finalising a HSE FAW Trainer and Assessor register. This is the first directory where your details will be verified by taking up references and checking qualifications etc.  This will give confidence to training providers and end users alike when selecting trainers. The aim is to get more business to registered trainers.

To get this directory up and running asap, Trainers will be able to register free of charge as long as they register within say, 1 month of it going live.  After this time trainers will need to either be AoFA members or pay a fee to cover administration costs.

This will also expand to cover other courses as this falls in line with the AoFA gold standards.

Will also be adding a search by postcode locality and SMS messaging.

Any comments?

Would you post details here, or will you have a link from the home page?

Also will you give us the option of sending copies of certificates etc by post for those of us without scanners?

very good idea, i will certainly be sending details, will everyone have to submit names and emails of references?

The only problem that should be investigated is would anyone really put a referee down who would not give a positive reference on them?  This is the hard bit i guess. Maybe copies of IV reports/ HSE visits, student evaluations could be suggested (altho i know we all wont have these)

Just writing my thoughts aloud as it were (which i guess is good for Dave)

On the whole great idea, the intro thread has taken off again lately!

Maybe ask other site members if they have experience a problem with a trainer to provide proof of this to admin.

There is at least one person on here who would no doubt be able to pull a good reference out of a hat despite being a completely horrendous trainer and costing companies their clients due to the poor standard of courses (they have managed to fraudulently procure other things after all so why not a false reference?) so maybe a feedback system like ebay would be more appropriate. Providing of course it is kept free of obscenities and the person leaving the feedback had to prove the allegation.

I take it you will have evidence of these allegations? I cannot see how you can prove this and stop them.

This a great idea as I have just qualified and would love some help and assistance.  I am HSE approved trainer and assesser.  Wink

Am I correct in thinking there is no such thing as a HSE approved trainer? or is this a new development?

You are correct in thinking that there is no HSE Trainer but as waterbaby007 is a new member to this forum we could try and cut him a little slack with his wording?????

Admin I think your idea is great..... :0)

Was thanked: 1 time(s) in 1 post(s)
I think Daniel was just trying to make the correction in a subtle way.

My view is we need to eliminate this "HSE Trainer" thing. It get's bandied around, and to the uninitiated it sounds unassailable.

We did some agency work for a training Co who were not HSE approved for FAW. They had an existing trainer who did all the then AP courses. His training was abysmal, his manual was an invitation to sue it had so many inaccuracies or poor procedures, and as we filled in for his absence with several of their clients, the stories began to come out.

When I had a meeting with the Co's MD, the answer I got back is "Well, he's an HSE-approved trainer". No matter how much I tried to advise that there was no such thing, and point the Co in the right direction, they were adamant that he was HSE-approved so that was that.

We walked away from the job in the end.

Comet.

Whilst I am quite aware waterboy is a new member, and I am quite happy to "cut him some slack" it is my experience that "trainers" are "told by the training company" that they are something they are not.

With respect, if any trainer applied to me and stated, with all honesty they were HSE approved trainers, I would not touch them with a bargepole, as they are claiming to be something which does not truely exist. This will make waterboy look foolish in the workplace, and then he has to deal with the loss of face. Does this make my position seem clear? I do not intend to "harrass/bully/intimidate" anyone, just ask for "trainers" to represent themselves clearly.

Erm, I posted a reply after Scotty, and it disappeared!

Did a mod delete it?  It only said that I was unaware of an 'HSE Trainer' status.

Seajones.

I am unable to find it, I certainly have not removed it, and given your past history of good, intelligent posts, I cannot imagine why it was removed by another mod.

I guess the pixies have it?

Scotty Dog

You make yourself very clear and sometimes that might come across as being sarcastic. Which I'm sure was not meant either towards waterbaby007 or myself.

One of the problems with typing rather than talking!

Thank you for your promote response

Not too sure I have helped, comet, though I fully agree with you.

I am always happy to explain my comments, and agree with your observation about the typed comments I alway would try to clarify myself, and will offer a telephone number to talk to a member, to sort out disagreements.

I never mean to come across as sarcastic, I am sometimes too blunt for people`s liking..... then again, everyone knows where I stand.

This is probably why it's a good idea to get used to how people talk online.  I knew Scotty wasn't being sarky, because I've read his posts before.

If you don't know, it doesn't hurt to give the benefit of the doubt.
