I think it will depend on what level you have been taught/ teaching. At advanced level, the D is disabilty and the E is exposure. On an APLS course it is ABCDEFG, with the DEFG being DON'T EVER FORGET THE GLUCOSE.

So i think it is a bit harsh to intimate that as an instructor they should know Amberlight.

There are various forms of this depending on who teaches it. I have heard the following:
A - Airway.

B - Breathing.

C - Circulation, Call Amb, CPR.

D - Defibrillation, Disability.

E - Examine, Exposure, Environment.

F - Full History.

And there's probably some more out there.

I am interested to know when you received the letter Nobby. I run a HSE centre and haven't had anything yet. Anybody else had a letter?

Scott.

Well, it certainly shows the problems with using acroynms in general.
I'd have thought DRABCDE was one of the more easily recognised / known / understood, yet here we are with 3 posts and 3 different (to a degree) answers!Wacko

Kev, mate! you would be surprised how many don`t know this/have differing views. and I don`t think any such letter came from HSE, they don`t set such issues in first aid training, if they have, it`s in reply to a question to medical services....... why else have many not heard of this "change"

Mrs T has it on the nose. it depends on the skill level and prurpose, your DRABCDE will be different to say an in hospital DRABCDE and then different again to someone elses teaching at a higher first aid level. medicdog2009-09-12 17:07:43
