Now, I have a cold and a bit of a wooly head so some of this might not make sense. But.....
Speaking for the mainland UK (rules are a bit different in N.I.) in order to teach
statutory workplace first aid - thats HSE 1 day FAW and HSE 3 day FAW the rules as set by the HSE are clear and can be downloaded here;
http://www.hse.gov.uk/fi...d/first-aid-training.htmThese can be summarised as follows:
You say you are a medical doctor? Well in that case as long as you are registered with the GMC that exempts you from the need to have your own FAW certificate.
You will need to have a formal training qualification - PTLLS is a good place to start but if you intend on obtaining a qualification in the Republic of Ireland make sure it is comparable with the UK QCF (Qualifications Credit Framework) via the EQF (European Qualifications Framework) for extra peace of mind.
It might also be worth double checking with the HSE to be doubly sure.
Other than that you'll need to demonstrate suitable experience and competence.
The next step - is approval from the HSE. Now you can go to them directly - again cross refer attached link or you can become affliated to an organisation, such as the AoFA.
I am duty bound to point out, other routes to approval and although, naturally, I think the AoFA offers the best 'bang for your buck' as it were you should check each one out to make sure you pick the right fit for your organisation/working methods. So should you wish to have the backing and kudos that comes from being an approved provider with the Association of First Aiders (the UK's largest Association dedicated to the furtherance of First Aid) then I am certain we can help - please call me on 01908 610093 to find out more.
